Question of the day: What should I do with the leftover record bowls from the Artpool sale last weekend?

Answer: Make a mobile! I tied a paper clip to the end of some fishing line, slid the first bowl on, tied another paper clip about 8 inches from the first one, added another bowl, etc. The whole contraption is light enough to hang from the ceiling and twirl.

What I'll do different next time: Use old keys instead of paper clips. The paper clips are plenty sturdy, but they're not much to look at.

Add your own caption

I bought these pictures at thrift stores and added captions from magazines for my amusement.

(like you've always wished it could be)

A sorry excuse for jewelry

I bought a Sorry game at a thrift store this weekend. It was missing pieces, so I used the pieces it had to make earrings.

Computer key rings

I found a keyboard at a thrift store with "Sleep" and "Wake" buttons! Here are some rings I made with the keys.

Boxes from record sleeves

I fashioned these boxes out of the sleeves left over from making the record bowls. They totally have that musky old record smell to them. :)

Why I no longer have fingerprints ...

I burned them off while shaping hot records into bowls this afternoon.
I baked the records in the oven at 200 degrees. It took about 5 minutes for them to get hot enough to shape.
Here is a sampling of songs from the records that will make you want to party:
"Fancy Dancer"
"More and More Amor"
"Pleeza No Squeeza"
"De Banana"
"Good Boogdi Googe"
"Tain't What You Do"
"Hit the Road to Dreamland"

Necktie headbands

These bad boys are made from vintage neckties. They have a plastic band inside to help keep them on your head.

Slides and spare keys

For this mobile, I used:
Fancy fixture - This was part of a knob on my kitchen cabinets before I redid them.
Slides - I found a little cardboard box of these at a thrift store a while back. The slides are of pin-up girls.
Keys - I have a collection of found keys in case of craft emergencies.
